35 years of Clarence Thomas

On this date, in 1991, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was sworn in and a new, Constitutionalist era of SCOTUS rulings began. Although he remained fairly quiet for many years during oral arguments, Justice Thomas was always listening, and some of his opinions have been the basis for the return of Constitutional deference in US law. Without him, Constitutionalist decisions like MILLER, McDONALD and BRUEN likely would not have happened, and a return to the originalist meaning of the Second Amendment would likely have been lost forever.
