Men’s Health Month

OK, I am not going to lie. When I first heard the term, I did assume it was some snark directed against Pride Month. Imagine my surprise when I learned that it was real. To be fair, the snark is deserved and men’s health does get overlooked.

I’ve ranted about this on other places about the fact that men get the short end of the stick on the issues of their well being. A man complaining about hurting in one way or another is disregarded. Support in the media? Hardly exists. Men’s issues are treated as a pathetic joke and you will almost certainly see jokes about it.

Now us older folks were raised to be tolerant of discomfort but to help each other out as needed. I’ve read enough articles about younger men simply giving up on trying to find a job, buy a home and start a family. Suicide rates are high and they aren’t showing signs of dropping.

The solution is a massive shift in culture. I’m not talking hug circles and crying things out. But I am saying that as men, we need to support each other and tell those who mock this idea to go to hell. We need to make it clear to the youngsters that they aren’t alone and that you will mentor them in what they need to know. Positive male role models should be A Thing again.
