Accountability Problem in America

Happy Monday FRians! Hope everyone had a nice weekend. This Monday’s post is by Mrs. Pinky! Thank you ma’am! Have a great day!!

As the riots and fires rage across America, people have every excuse under the book of why people have lost their resolve and have resorted to property damage, looting and rioting to be heard. It isn’t just that people feel oppressed or wronged. It is that we have lost our ability to convey what ails us because politicians simply are not listening. That is intentional on the part of the media. What better stories are there then those that make America look as bad as the left side of political discourse seem to think? But that isn’t our issue. America has an accountability issue and virtue signaling will not fix it.

What started as a police brutality protest has spawned into a disastrous amount of months of chaos. It went from George Floyd should not have been kneeled on, to whenever someone is shot by a cop, people go crazy. There seems to be a call for accountability. Criminals are doing what they want, citizens are doing what they want, and police are not getting charged as quickly as every day Americans. The rule of law isn’t being changed in the Congress who always have a retort on Twitter, but it is being changed and shaped by the media. Then those who claim to want to help flame whatever narrative they want to portray.

There isn’t anyone going to jail who has incited the violence. Activist Shaun King basically excused the violence because we’ve been peaceful enough. He doesn’t care that not being peaceful isn’t protected in our Constitution or laws. Being not peaceful is actually illegal. Calling for people not to be peaceful is illegal. Why isn’t he being held accountable for adding to the mess.

As people are putting back together the pieces of broken businesses, those in leadership to actually address the madness have not for months on end. It wasn’t until it was politically beneficial to do so that now the governors and mayors of these blue towns pretend to call for peace. It is a pretense because 30 plus officers are dead and numerous citizens in the aftermath. If any of these leaders cared, they could’ve saved lives. They sat back as their citizens had to fend for themselves, and those that did got charged switftly as Breonna Taylor’s murderers are still not charge.

The intention of the initial protest were to call cops to account. They are trained professionals tasked with one of the toughest jobs in American. That means, they are expected to handle more and to do better than the average criminal, not to become one. If the court system will not see justice served equally for these unfit members of the police forces, the people believed it was their job to do something. Even if that something made things worse.

American police need to be held to account. Citizens need to be held to account. Criminals need to be held to account. Leaders in the local communities need to be held accountable. Congress who is supposed to write laws that cops enforce need to be held to account. And most of all, the media who fans the flames of the problems and makes things worse; need to be held to account.

America has an accountability issue. We need people in areas that will hold us all to account or we will see more destruction and chaos.
