Virtue Signaling and the Patronization of the American Black Person

Happy Thursday, FRians! Today’s post is by Mrs. P! Thank you, Mrs. P

In the aftermath of the death of George Floyd murdered at the hands of a Minneapolis Police officer, the narrative shift from justice for this man and to one demanding that Black lives matter.

Out of the ashes of burned building and looted stores, a series of virtue signaling actions went into full swing. Instead of real action, the Black community got treated infantile and it stings.

Corporations of any size had to let the Black person know that they are not racist and think we matter. Who said they didn’t? I am not saying their aren’t any businesses out there who do not care about us, but isn’t the default position is that they do.

How do our lives matter? What about the Blacks that died in the violent protest? What about those who lost businesses? See my issues is that all Black lives do not matter always. Because if it did, those that offer no real solution would not come at us with these meaningless gestures.

Writing Black lives matter on a road does not solve systemic racism in police departments, take violent criminals off the streets and give us school choice. It makes the writers feel happy, gives Blacks a pat on the head, and a wishful thinking that we will vote for these people again.

In fact, the House of Representatives democrats thought it was okay to culturally appropriate Ghanaian Kente cloth at a press conference was supposed to make Blacks happy. Oh, the African attire is supposed to make me think they care. No, being in session when we needed them could have done that. Maybe better leadership in the community could show they actually care. They might as well eat chicken and watermelon to show solidarity. As some people have pointed out, this was literally political Blackface.

It is an election year, and those with the power to change the systemic problems with policing country wide do not have a solution. Virtue signaling isn’t for the people directed at it but the people doing it. It fulfills some superhero complex and it needs to stop. It does not help fix anything at all.
