Freedom To Disagree

Are we group thinkers who shun every opinion that doesn’t agree with ours? Or are we free thinkers who debate issues, some which we agree with each other and some which we do not?

If your solution to disagreement is to take your marbles and leave because this person or that person doesn’t want to hear about or discuss anything pro-Trump, or because this person or that person doesn’t want to hear about or discuss only anti-Trump views, well you are free to do so. That’s part of freedom and while it’s difficult for me personally to lose viewers and commenters, I love freedom too much to curb these discussions.

I started this blog so that people had a place to come to where a bunch of words weren’t moderated; Where an opinion different from the owner of the blog or its commenters would not result in in your comments automatically being moderated or deleted, or worse yet get you banned. Basically as close to freedom of expression on a private board can be. And I think for the most part that’s what I have done. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

Lately–and by lately, I mean since the election–I have received several messages from people who have either decided to leave the blog entirely or are limiting their exposure to the blog because they don’t agree with everyone on it. I had hoped this issue would work itself but I guess that’s not the case.

Not to compare a blog with those who fought for actual freedom, but this sentiment stands…freedom is hard.

I really hope those of you who limiting your time for these reasons will reconsider, but I can’t stop you from doing it, nor would I want to for freedom’s sake. And I really hope that somehow those who have left for these reasons consider coming back for freedom’s sake.

I’m sorry if this post seems cold. That’s not my intent. While I have certain emotions tied to the blog, I’m try to look at the big picture of the blog from a business perspective and not an emotional perspective. And emotional reactions are what I believe are causing the turmoil. And from the business perspective, well, I won’t go into what it all means right now. But less viewers isn’t good.

As always, all topics welcome, and any and all ideas and thoughts are always welcome. If you want to make sure I see them, send me a message rather than posting it in the comments as I cannot catch every comment.

Thanks,
FR
