Today marks the 249th anniversary of our country declaring freedom from a tyrannical government with the idea that it would be led by people and not royalty. The Founders were flawed men and they recognized that. They put their trust in God that we would be a nation that would be wisely led and that the rights of the individual would be protected.
We have fallen short of that goal as a nation more than once. But rather than dwell on it, we rose up and tried again. And at the age of two hundred and forty-nine, we have remained strong and continue our efforts to live up to the promise written down by men who took a risk that we could not fathom.
