Coup in Zimbabwe

For something different today, I direct you to coverage of the Coup in Zimbabwe. And, if I’m going to be honest about it, engage in a bit of schadenfreude.

Robert Mugabe, 93 years old and in failing health, seems to have lost power to a coup by his generals. The triggering event seems to have been the firing of his long-time vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in a move widely seen as elevating Mugabe’s wife Grace and grooming her to become the next dictator.

It couldn’t have happened to a nicer Afro-Marxist dictator and his grasping wife. Although claiming to bring the dictatorship of the proletariat–there is not proletariat in Zimbabwe–Mugabe has acted like an incompetent tribal chief. The truth about Zimbabwe is that Mugabe has favored his ethnic group over other ethnic groups, and run his country into the proverbial ground.

Latest reports indicate Mugabe, his wife, and his stepsons (Grace’s children) are in custody. To which I say; about time, and good riddance.
