How We Met

This week’s Freedom Friday post is brought to you by Al and Winnie’s Grandpa!  Thank you!

And, as always, open thread!

How did you meet your spouse/significant other? If you are not currently in a relationship, you can tell us how you met the former spouse/significant other if you choose to share. Or you can tell us to take a hike because you don’t need us rubbing it in your face. (Is a sarcasm tag needed here?)

During my junior year at Marist all those many years ago, some friends from the local LDS congregation in Poughkeepsie, of which I was a member, had invited me to go into NYC to spend the day with other LDS singles from the Tri-State area. It was at this event that I met my future wife – though at the time, I wasn’t looking. Camille was living in Manhattan, working as a nanny, which is how she was a part of the LDS single scene at the time. I only mention this, because it’s relevant to how we met.  It wasn’t until a few month later when I was at Shea Stadium with a couple of teammates for a Mets game, that I ran into her and it was that meeting that sparked the start of the relationship.

Between the 4th and 5th innings, I decided to go get myself a sausage and a Coke and while I was waiting in line, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned and I saw a familiar face, though I couldn’t immediately place from where I knew her. She asked if we had met at the LDS singles gathering a few months back and that’s when it clicked. Yes, that was where we met. I spent almost the rest of the game talking to her on the concourse. Before I went back to my seat, I asked for her phone number and all the other little pre-dating rituals. So, for the next two years or so, she and I dated, got married and started our life together when I started law school.
How about the rest of you? Share, if you so feel inclined.
