A Rant from DJH

From FR: For anyone who might have missed the sad news yesterday, Elf’s father was killed in a car accident yesterday. I started taking donations yesterday and will continue to do so for the next few days to send something to Elf. If you’d like to donate, please hit the donate button on the blog. I started with an empty account and anything I receive until the cutoff date will go to him. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he and his family try to cope through this. Also please keep Tigerspike’s family in your prayers as well as they also lost a loved one this week.

So, some of you have children. Some of you have children who’re currently in school. Some of you are working with schools.

Let me ask any of you- do your kids learn anything notable in school?

When I was in my high school, I was taught algebra, geography, biology, Old Testament, Spanish, language skills, reading/poetry, music, typing, and gym. You know what I didn’t learn? How to do my taxes. Or how to vote (granted, I knew how- and my geography teacher taught us all how). Or how to change a tire. Or the parts of a car.

I didn’t learn anything like that. But thank God above I know the circumference of a frog’s heart…

How many Millennials actually know how to change a tire? Or do taxes? Or do anything like that?

It’s not because we don’t want to- I know plenty of Millennials who actually do want to do stuff like that. It’s because we’ve never been taught how to actually do it.

Do you know how I learned to vote (as in doing research and all that)? I was taught by a video game. No, I’m not kidding. I was playing a political game where I had to choose my candidate and party for President. It said “Not sure what to choose? Go to isidewith.com and take their poll to see where you end up!” I went over, and found out I was Center-Right. I found out I agreed with nothing Obama stood for, but I agreed with Romney a whole lot. (Note- this was before my “Conservative awakening”, probably July of 2012)

How did I learn to change a tire? I watched my dad change one of the tires on his car. And I watched TV.

I still don’t know how to do my taxes, don’t really know the parts of a car, and I don’t know how to start my own business properly (though I am learning from a friend).

But thank God I know how crabs mate and how to measure the circumference of a triangle…
