School Districts In Texas Are Getting Wise

Hooray for Texas!

And no, I’m not just giving my usual shout out for my beloved state. :P

This story is about a week old, but I’m just finding time to write about it. I had planned to write about this and something else, but the something else was mentioned in the comments yesterday, so now you only get this one. I’ll refrain from pointing fingers.

Anyway, as I was saying…hooray for Texas! Slowly but surely, Texas school districts are taking measures to protect students and teachers from the crazy-pants people who ignore those big ol’ “THIS IS A GUN FREE ZONE” signs.

Last week, Keene, TX, a small town south of Ft. Worth, became the third school district in Texas to arm teachers. Following in the footsteps of Argyle ISD and Van ISD, Keene ISD voted 6-1 to arm a select number of teachers. The school administrators will not disclose how many teachers will be carrying nor who those teachers are. The school district will work with the police department, and the selected teachers will receive a minimum of 80 hours per year of training and be required to carry their weapons at all times.

I’m quite surprised we haven’t heard proggy head explosions over these decisions. And I will admit that I’m a little disappointed that we haven’t gotten to drink the liberal tears of angst. I do love to quench my thirst with those. Add a little ice and a splash of lemon…mmmm, satisfying. But I digress.

Thankfully, there are some schools who are not willing to rely on just doors and wasp spray to defend themselves.
