Democrats Prematurely Pop Their Corks on Unemployment News

The Department of Labor has released the latest unemployment numbers, and some people are pretty excited about the news.

WOOHOO!

U.S. jobless claims lowest since 1973; leading index rises

The number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits last week fell to its lowest level in more than 41-1/2 years, suggesting the labor market maintained a solid pace of job growth in July.

YESSS!

U.S. Jobless Claims Fall To Lowest Level Since 1973

The number of U.S. workers filing applications for jobless benefits last week fell to the lowest level in more than 40 years, another sign of a strengthening labor market.

Everything is awesome! Crack open the champagne, America! Let us all be grateful for the Demo…

What’s this?

Still, Federal Reserve policy makers are monitoring underlying signs of weakness, including tepid wage growth and a large number of workers stuck in part time jobs.

Oh. That’s not a good thing. But let’s not pooh-pooh on this parade. We should keep the good times rolling. Let’s go look at what the Associated Press has to say about it.

Applications for US unemployment aid plummet to 42-year low

WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of people seeking U.S. unemployment aid plunged last week to the lowest level in nearly 42 years, evidence that employers are holding onto their staffs and likely hiring at a steady pace. Yet the drop also reflects seasonal volatility in the data.

Weekly applications for unemployment benefits fell 26,000 to 255,000, the lowest level since November 1973, the Labor Department said Thursday. If the data were adjusted for the growth of the U.S. population since then, last week’s figure would likely be an all-time low.

That’s more like it! The country’s job situation looks brighter than ever! Our nation’s prayers have been answered! All credit goes to #prog…

One reason for the drop, however, is that auto plants and other factories close briefly in July to prepare for next year’s models.

Ah, that’s nothing. It’s a minor discrepancy that doesn’t really affect the big pic…

The unemployment rate fell in June mostly because many of the unemployed stopped looking for work, rather than found jobs. The proportion of Americans working or looking for work fell to a 38-year low.

And average hourly pay was unchanged last month from May. Pay has risen at roughly a 2 percent annual pace since the recession ended in 2009, below the 3.5 percent typical in a healthy economy.

Damn it, why do I read past the headlines?! I’m forever disillusioned with the Democrats now.

That is sarcasm, of course. As if people with their eyes open were ever illusioned with the Democrats.

Sadly, millions still leave on their blindfolds. They refuse to look at how progressive leaders blame the other side when things are bad, yet it is those progressive leaders who are in charge of our cities–and the country–where unemployment keeps people miserable and in poverty. Until people start realizing that and start voting for a different kind of leadership, nothing will change for the better.

Yes, Debbie. This is #progress:

Since the Democrats are taking the credit for the unemployment situation, it is only fair that they take the blame for it.
